Simple Cross Wall Hanging Tutorial!!

Isn’t this wall hanging super cute!! I love everything about it…the colors, the use of burlap with the satin ribbon…even the cute little gold button as the accent!! If you think it’s cute too…then read on…cause I’m going to show you step by step how to create one for yourself!!

The great thing about this tutorial is that you make it any color you want!! You can match the colors in your bedroom or living room…or even hallway or  babies room!! Here is what you need:

  • 14 x 18 blank canvas (you can purchase these at any craft store, WalMart, or online)
  • 3 ft. of  4″ burlap ribbon
  • 3 ft. of  2″ ribbon (of your choice)
  • Paint (color of your choice) I used spray paint for this one, but craft paint will work too!
  • a button or brooch for the accent piece
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • some string for gathering

That’s it!! Very minimal supplies and expense in this cute craft!!

Here is what I did…

I started by painting my canvas, all over, my desired color…which was a bronze! Let it dry completely…

Then starting with the 4″ ribbon first…center the ribbon on the canvas lengthwise and cut it to size. Allowing enough ribbon to hang over and using the hot glue gun, glue onto the backside. Once in place you can trim any excess as needed.

Then repeat that process using the 2″ ribbon…laying it directly on top of the first ribbon like so…

Now about 1/4 of the way down length way…pinch together the ribbon and lie it off with a piece of string…trim the string when the knot is tight!

Now do the same thing…but horizontally this time…about 1/4 of the way down…

Pinching together like you did before and securing it with a string and knot…

Now you have your Cross…

Finally garnish the center point with your button or brooch!!  That’s it!! Super simple but super cute!!

I also created similar canvas using just some scrap material I had on hand…Check them out!

The possibilities are endless with this craft project!! Try it!! And if you do please let me know!!

Enjoy!!
